A
A is the most widely known abrasive powder, popularly called by the name Arundum.
Features
- It is composed of corundum crystals with more than 90% alumina purity, obtained by melting bauxite in an electric furnace at a high temperature of 2,000°C. In particular, a few percent of titanium is solid-solved to improve the toughness (crush resistance) as abrasive grains.
Applications
- Precision finishing wheels, materials for water-resistant abrasive papers and general lapping materials
